Peer-to-peer streaming — BSV micropayments

TOKENIZE

Every piece of content becomes a revenue-generating asset. The token is the licence. Hold tokens, serve content, earn revenue.

THE MODEL

Creator makes a video ↓ Mints BSV-21 token — e.g. 1,000,000 $EMPRESS tokens ↓ Creator holds 100% of tokens = 100% of revenue + right to serve ↓ Viewers stream → pay per piece → 100% flows to token holders ↓ Creator sells tokens to seeders, investors, fans ↓ Seeders buy tokens = buy the licence to serve the content ↓ Revenue is distributed proportionally to all token holders via fan-out in the settlement transaction

TOKEN = LICENCE = REVENUE RIGHT

The token isn't just a financial instrument. It's the licence to serve the content. If you hold tokens, you have the right to seed and sell that content on the network. If you don't hold tokens, you can't legally serve it.

This aligns everyone's incentives. Seeders are investors. They buy tokens because they believe the content will earn revenue. More popular content attracts more seeders, which means better delivery, which means more viewers, which means more revenue. A flywheel.

HOW IT WORKS

1
Add content
Drag a video into the BitCoinTorrent client. It's converted to streamable fMP4, chunked into 256KB torrent pieces, and a manifest is generated with pricing.
2
Tokenize
Click "Tokenize" to mint a BSV-21 fungible token. You choose the ticker, name, and supply. The token's address becomes the revenue destination. You now hold 100% of tokens and receive 100% of all streaming revenue.
3
Seed & sell
Your node seeds the content. You hold all the tokens, so you hold the licence. Other people who want to seed your content must buy tokens from you. This is how you monetise upfront — sell a portion of your tokens to seeders who want to serve your content and earn from future streams.
4
Viewers pay per piece
Every viewer opens a payment channel. As they watch, each 256KB piece triggers a signed BSV transaction. 100% of the payment fans out directly to token holders proportionally. No platform cut. No middleman. Only 2 on-chain transactions per session.
5
Revenue distribution
The settlement transaction itself IS the distribution. Each output pays a token holder directly, proportional to their holdings. For small holder counts, this happens atomically in the settlement TX. For larger holder counts, revenue accumulates and nodes batch-distribute dividends when economically viable.
6
Trade tokens
Tokens are standard BSV-21. They can be transferred, sold, or listed on any BSV marketplace. Buying tokens = buying a share of future streaming revenue AND the right to serve the content. A hit song's tokens become more valuable as streams grow.

ECONOMICS

1,000 streams63,000 sats → token holders ($0.032)
100,000 streams6,300,000 sats → token holders ($3.15)
10,000,000 streams630,000,000 sats → token holders ($315)
Holder with 500,000 tokens (50%)Receives 50% of all streaming revenue
Holder with 10,000 tokens (1%)Receives 1% — dividends batched to avoid dust
Holder with 1 tokenReceives 0.0001% — accumulated until claimable

THE DIVIDEND BATCHING PROBLEM

If a video has 1,000,000 token holders each with 1 token, and the video earns 100 sats, each holder is owed 0.0001 sats. That's below the dust limit. The transaction fee to send it would exceed the amount.

Solution: Fan-out + batched accumulation

For small holder counts (1-100), the settlement transaction itself fans out directly to each holder. No custody, no intermediary. For larger holder counts, revenue accumulates at the token address and nodes batch-distribute when amounts are economically viable. Nodes verify each other's work via Proof of Indexing — independently computing the holder snapshot from the blockchain and comparing merkle roots.

WHY SEEDERS MUST HOLD TOKENS

The token is the licence. No tokens = no right to serve the content. This creates a powerful flywheel:

Seeder wants to serve popular contentMust buy tokens from creator or other holders
More demand for seedingToken price rises (market-driven)
Seeder earns from holdingsProportional share of ALL streaming revenue
Seeder stops servingStill earns dividends while holding tokens
Seeder sells tokensExits position, someone else takes over

This is fundamentally different from the old "60/40 split" model. There is no split. There is ownership. If you own the tokens, you own the revenue stream. The seeder doesn't get paid for bandwidth — they get paid for ownership.

GOVERNANCE

How do we prevent the token issuer from gaming the system? The settlement transaction fans out directly to token holders — the issuer can't intercept it. The BSV blockchain is the source of truth for who holds tokens. Nodes independently index token transfers and compute holder snapshots. No single party controls the revenue flow.

For details on the phased governance approach (direct fan-out → transparency monitoring → Proof of Indexing → threshold multisig → sCrypt covenants), see the Dividend Governance Architecture document.
